Ken 2-21-2012 05:34 PM
I had a dream.
Last night I had a nightmare. The year was 2015 and Obama was in the office. Obama care was in full swing. I was to a Doctor at the clinic ( no one takes Medicare anymore) and I was to told that I need an operation but, the cost is $300,00 and given that my life expectancy in 10 years the value medicine is 30, 000 per year. Therefore, it is not cost effective. The death panel would not approve trhe operation. I told the Doctor that I will sell my house and pay for the operation myself. He told me that that was illegal and both me and the Doctor who did it would go to jail
I went home and told myn wife. She said I should go to the political club just like in Red Hook in the old days. But, I am a Republican. She said as distasteful as it was I needed to register as a gulp Democrat. I immediately went to borough hall and became a DINO (Demacrat in name only.) Next I went to Confession to ask for forgiveness. Then I went to see the Democratic Congressman Smurf.
Smurf saw me. I explained my problem. I asked if he could do something to get the Death Panel to change their mind. DONT CALL THEM DEATH PANEL -WE DON'T LIKE THAT. CALL THEM MEDEICAL LIFESAVING REVIEW BOARDS(MLRB). OK I wasn't going to argue. Smurf said that he could speak to someone in DC but, that he didn't have the time being that he needed to raise campaign money. As a matter of fact he had a fundraiser in two days and he could not miss it. I saw the light. I asked how much he expected to raise . He said $40,000.
I said that I could give it to him. He said THAT WOULD BE A BRIBE. HOWEVER, I COULD MAKE A DONATION TO HIS CAMPAIGN.
I immediately wnet and emptied my bank account and returned to his office and gave him the money. He said I WOULD HEAR FROM HIM IN A WEEK.
After three weeks I went back to see Smurf. After much pleading the secretary let me see Cong. Smurf. I asked if he could help me. He said WHO ARE YOU?.Much deflated I reminded him. He finally said I REMEMBER. I SPOKE TO WHO COULD DO SOMETHING AND HE SAID NO OPERATION. I WAS TOO OLD ETC ETC. I asked for my money back. He said IT WAS A DONATION -SORRY.

I woke up screaming. I told my wife about the nightmare. She said it was only a dream, the year is 2012 and that maybe the nation will wake up before the coming nightmare.

sam 2-21-2012 07:36 PM
ken you would make a great paperback writter...but you are right on point.

June 2-21-2012 08:15 PM
Ken, you are right on point. I mentioned here on a prior post, I cannot find a doctor in my area who will take new medicare patients. After much discussion I was told, when all their old medicare patients die off, he will no longer accept medicare patients. The
govt doesn't pay them enough.
I am 65 and I need neck surgery, there is a new surgery, less intrusive, but my insurance, Blue Cross/ Blue Shield will not cover it, I am too old. The will pay for the very intrusive surgery, with more risk, but not the new method. I opted for no surgery. I am not a guinea pig.

Marie 2-21-2012 08:34 PM
Ken, your nightmare will very likely become a reality if President Obama wins again. Some people are so blind to what is going on. When and if it does happen, I will be able to sleep at night, because I tried my very best to make people see what is happening.

I have seen lately, people don't want to hear anything that is unpleasant or will make them worry. They are looking at life through rose colored glasses.
We are like cattle being led to slaughter.

My neighbor 77, had open heart surgery 13 years ago. Triple bypass. He was in the hospital 10 days. Came home and made a full recovery.

In november, he needed heart surgery again, quadruple bypass this time. Now he is 77. He had the surgery, and was sent home in 3 days. He had a very bad relapse on day 4 and went back in, his kidneys failed, he almost died.

He still is having kidney trouble. If he was allowed to remain in the hospital a week or ten days like the previous surgery, they would have monitored his kidneys, and delt with it before it got too bad. Our medical care is getting worse and worse, because of this Obamacare nightmare. He has excellent health insurance but the medicare part is hurting all of us who are 65 and older. People think all these medical cuts will effect other people, wait til it effects you or some one you love.

AND IT IS GOING TO GET MUCH WORSE.

Mary Oliva 2-22-2012 03:08 AM
Ken, you are a very sick individual. Very typical of a Republican who likes to use scare tactics to get their point across. It is hilarious to me that you are using the "Obama wants to kill grandma" tactic. This is evident that you know you are aboard a sinking ship and that NO Republican candidate out there is going to beat Obama. My father who passed away ten years ago, also was on Medicare... He couldn't find a decent doctor who accepted medicare then either. It has nothing to do with Obama, but rather, greedy health care providers who don't make enough money from medicare patients. Also, ten years ago, I had a friend with small children whose husband left her. She applied for access for her kids and got it. Unfortunately, she could not find doctors who accepted the medicaid card. It was explained to her by the receptionist that the doctor's don't take it because they don't get enough payment from the government for their services. The problem with Medicare and Medicaid has been going on for decades. The greed of physicians and big insurance companies have caused the crisis - not Obama. It is corporate greed that has launched the crisis our country is in, and honestly,I am not sure a Republican or a Democrat is going to change this. Our nation has become morally corrupt and bankrupt - and we are feeling that in the financial sector. If the CEO's of the large corporations would give up their bonuses, we could really make a dent in the disaster we now live in. But the bottom line profit is what is important to these corporations - the health care industry included. Obama has tried to quell these industries, because he does care about the middle class. You may not agree with him,but he HAS TRIED. I respect that. I did not vote for Obama in the last election. But I will vote for him in this election, because I believe he truly cares about the middle class and the poor. Stop the fear mongering. It is inappropriate to say that this president has something against old people and that he is supporting an industry that is waiting for old people to do. It may be true of the industry, but it is not true of him. Very sad that in this day and age, such hatred is possible. Very sad indeed.

pvc 2-22-2012 03:54 AM
Mary don`t get too upset with Ken he really hasn`t woken up yet.

Stephen O'Donnell 2-22-2012 07:31 AM
Mary, as much as Ken is spreading the word of the right, you are spreading the word of the left. If I recall, a person who wants to become a doctor must first get thru college, then medical school, maybe 7 years as a resident, maybe another 5 years on staff and then maybe open his or her private practice. During all that time they must pay for malpractice insurance, which is a hefty premium. This is due to the fact that lawyers file malpractice suits left and right (no pun intended). Now maybe they want to marry, have kids, buy a home, educate their children, just like we all want. But you and those who think as you do, want them to make a wage that is "fair" and "reasonable" on the same scale as cops, firemen, teachers, auto workers etc etc etc (no reflection on these professions as they too are needed). A doctor needs to repay loans just as we all do, and everyday they are making a possible life and death choice regarding someones well being. The solution is not an easy one, but a few possibilities are lowering premiums for the health care provider, limited lawsuits payouts, reform of tort laws etc etc. And as an aside. if I have health insurance from my job, why must I continue to pay for and or use Medicare, would that not help in ending the drain on the system or is it you want my money but I am not giving you and service.

lilly and grandpa 2-22-2012 08:27 AM
obama will easily win again by millions of votes the republicans have no one seriously speaking herman munster would have a better chance of beating obama then any of those clowns

Someone mentioned the Kennedy assasination, not being a conspiracy. It sure as heck was. Jackie O's private letters have just been released in part, and she makes reference to the conspiracy to "kill Jack". She makes reference to LBJ either knowing about if before hand or having a hand in it directly.
I hope I live long enough to hear the whole story.
I never believed in the single bullet theory.

Makes you wonder what conspiracies are going on right now, that we are unaware of.

Carla 2-21-2012 11:36 AM
Hi frank, I have always been interested in that subject, but I am almost afraid to comment for fear of the criticism. But I do think there was more to it, than we were told. His autopsy photos were changed to match their story of one gunman. Why? Jackie would know.

Bill 2-21-2012 12:27 PM
Oswald was the scapegoat. He knew he was screwed. He panicked, fled and killed the cop. I never thought he did it alone, or did it at all. Too many eye witnesses heard shots from different directions, and echos don't account for the sounds.

Shirley 2-21-2012 12:43 PM
What about Jack Ruby getting into the police station and killing Oswald? Was this a case of making sure there wasn't any way for the police to question Oswald?

annonymous 2-21-2012 12:52 PM
The Kennedy screwed Jimmy Hoffa and that's how he got killed. Jimmy Hoffa helped him get in office and then they screwed him and then Kennedy's brother screwed Jimmy Hoffa and that's why they both got killed.

Joe 2-21-2012 01:12 PM
That is so true. The Kennedys were notoriously dirty in business dealings. Right down from Joseph Kennedy and the booze industry. JFK and RFK had decided to attack the mafia. That along with their desire to bring down Castro, put a bullseye on their backs. Neither of them were the good, decent Catholics, we were led to beleive. That October in 62' was as close to WWIII as I want to get.

annonymous 2-21-2012 01:34 PM
The Kennedys got rid of Marilyn Monroe too.

Harry W. 2-21-2012 01:40 PM
That Hoffa connect is very very true. If you remember, when we went to bed election night, Nixon had won. The 11oclock news reported Nixon the winner. But when we woke up the next morning, the headlines had Kennedy as the winner. What happened during the night. Papa Kennedy couldn't handle losing, to anyone, and he wasn't going to let JFK lose by a small margin. He was very deep with the Chicago mafia connection, and called in a few favors.
The details are sketchy, but the polling stations in the Chicago area miraculously discovered enough votes for Kennedy to put him over the top. That is a fact. I always found it strange, that all of the "newly discovered votes" were all for Kennedy. Politic is dirty, that's for sure.

JFK appointing his brother Bobby, was rediculous by many standards. RFK had literally no experience as an attorney, and now is the highest in the land.
The two of them were all powerful, and I feel, let the power go to their heads.
JFK was jeopardizing the safety of the U.S. and he was removed.

Chris Greco 2-21-2012 01:53 PM
To annonymous, they didn't kill her, but they are guilty by their failure to provide assistance in a death. The whole story is confusing, but Bobby arrived in a helicopter, along with Peter Lawford, found MM unconscious, but not dead, originally tought of getting help and actually lifted her out of bed, but the. RFK had second thoughts and they put her back in bed and arranged the body. They left and the rest is history.
Peter Lawford, spoke of this to family and friends for many years, and in his memoirs, and drank himself to death, because of guilt.

Also, MM did not have enough barbiturates in her stomach to kill her, but she did have more than enough in her rectum. Theory, she was murdered, and injected in her rectum with the drugs to kill her. Was it RFK and Lawford? Two days before her death she threatened to go to the press with all the dirt she had learned from "pillow talk" from JFK and RFK, and she was upset, Bobby had just told her he would never leave Ethel and marry her. She sealed her own fate.

Shirley Kerrigan 2-21-2012 02:02 PM
I don't know much about the JFK assasination but I did hear that the father paid the mafia to help get Jack in. Then when he gets in his brother Bobby comes out against the mob. Duh!

annonymous 2-21-2012 02:08 PM
Chris, How are they guilty by their failure to assist in her death that doesn't make sense.

Chris 2-21-2012 02:18 PM
Annonymous, failure to give or obtain medical assistance for a person in need of critical care, can be determined to be guilty of manslaughter or criminally negligent homicide.
If they had gotten her to a hospital she probably would have lived, and eventually spilled her guts to the press as threatened.

annonymous 2-21-2012 02:26 PM
Chris ok you didn't say medical assistance ok . now I understand.

annonymous 2-21-2012 02:30 PM
Chris so why didn't they get in trouble for arranging the body and not trying to help her. I don't remember the story.

Chris. 2-21-2012 02:42 PM
Remember who we are talking about. These were powerful people. Much of this story came out years later. MM's housekeeper was paid off to keep quite, which she did, right up to her death, she was terrified.

MM's story was she was unhappy and commited suicide. Who is going to question the highest officials in the nation, especially the Kennedy's. The press back then had certain boundaries to abide by. They kept JFK's affairs quite too. Today, all is fair game.
By the time this story came out, all parties were dead. Which is why it probably was allowed to come out.

Harry 2-21-2012 02:50 PM
Shirley, RFK hated organized crime. He did not care they helped get Jack in the White House. Since 1955, He would ride with the local police, searching out illegal narcotics. He wanted to be a cop, but papa Kennedy would never go for that.

Hoover, FBI, never admitted that organized crime existed, and ordered his men to ignor them, he feared his men would be corrupted by organzed crime. Bobby went after them, anyway. During one Senate hearing, he questioned mafia boss Giancarna, and said he giggled like a little girl. Bobby sealed his own fate.

southland 2-21-2012 03:46 PM
might i make a comment about the KENNEDY KILLING, i read a book last month titled KILLING LINCOLN, by BILL O"REILLY, i believe he has another coming out shortly titled KILLING KENNEDY, if its any where close to the book as KILLING LINCOLN it would behoove any one with an interest in the KENNEDY CONSPIRACY to read it

Matie 2-21-2012 08:18 PM
Thankyou Southland, I have read the Lincoln book, very good read, I have put my name on the list for the Kennedy book. All his books are very good reads.

Marie 2-21-2012 09:11 PM
Shirley, you are so right. Ruby managed to get right up front with all the camera men and reporters. The local cops knew he was not a reporter or camera man.

Ruby had some "small time" connections with organized crime.
The old method of erasing everyone close, goes all the way back to the Egyptians. Kill Oswald, then kill Ruby, (he died in prison). All the connections stop right there. They fabricate a story, and manipulate the autopsy to correlate with their story. Nice neat little package.

Quick.. someone mention Johnny Perna and his side business... where are you Samantha or whoever that girl is who gives way to much informatin about people. Then everyone can yell at you. Oh no... this is anarchy.. and outrage... No more advertisements, no more politics... PLEASE... can we get back to normal? Hi Joe, this discussion got too deep for some.

It's a very important topic. Hang in there. If Obama wins again, sites like this will be outlawed, you know freedom of speech will go bye bye, along with many other freedoms we now enjoy.

All this talk about Obama. What about my father Ronald Reagan? I wanna hear some talk about him. Afterall, "there you go again", it was my father who made ketchup a vegetable in all public schools of the land. Now that's an accomplishment and a true testament to how much he cared for the average Joe in America. A true American hero and fond friend of Bonzo. God bless him.

Fed up with BHO 2-19-2012 01:00 PM
Arn't you the son who liked to prance around the ballet stage?

Kate Sweeney 2-19-2012 01:12 PM
Reagan brought down the Berlin Wall, was instrumental in the fall of Communism in Russia, and yes, ketchup was declared a vegetable. Well it is a vegetable. Pea soup on a hospital menu is considered a vegetable, a banana shake is considered a fruit. There are many things in many forms that are considered vegetables and there are many things considered a FRUIT.

Ron Jr. 2-19-2012 02:19 PM
That's right Kate...ketchup is a vegetable, and so what if it was used to replace a solid vegetable. The old man did good, and yeah, he took down that damn wall brick by brick... never mind that the changes in Europe were already taking place before the old man got into office...it was all my fadder!!! Yep, and he single handedly wiped out communism and he really didn't know anything about trading arms for hostages man.... he was too busy fighting communism. My fadder, American hero.

Jean 2-19-2012 02:41 PM
Someone should contact the teal Ron, Jr. and let him know this nut is using his name.

They teach Reagan economics as a good model, they will be teaching Obamanomics, as a model NOT to follow.

Obama couldn't hold a candle to Reagan.

Ron Jr. 2-19-2012 04:04 PM
Hey listen, I am not teal. Not by a long shot. My skin is as white as the driven snow. If I were teal, that would make me a smurf, right? And why are you getting mad at me Jean, for bragging about my fadder, the Greatest American president since Herbert Hoover?

Nancy 2-19-2012 06:07 PM
Ron, jr. Your sarcasm might be too subtle for some. Almost no one will get the Hoover remark. Be a man and just come out and say you're in Obamas corner. Leave Reagan out of this. This is no longer a Bush, or Reagan issue, its all Obama's baby now. He sucks as a president. Totally clueless, it's above his pay grade, to quote him. History will show that Carter, was better than Obama, and I thought that was impossile.

Ron Jr. 2-20-2012 04:19 AM
Feeling very hurt and rejected. I was sure that the son of the greatest president in American history would be greeted more warmly. And now, even my mother is accusing me of being an Obama supporter. Why would anyone think that? Especially my dear old mudder. Geez, mom, you read the stars, you know that's not true. I would never vote for a brilliant individual with great ideas that keep getting blocked by those wonderful individuals in Congress, who would rather not see him succeed - an individual who has pretty much accomplished everything he promised. Oh, I know the economy sucks... and it is all HIS fault. Oh no, not W's fault. Oh wait, let's not forget, Bill Clinton was president before W, so it must be trickle down economics. You see, I never forget what my fadder taught me. And the trickle completely passed W's 8 years. Not me, I would never vote for a muslim who wasn't even born in this country (even though his birth certificate shows this...I don't quibble with facts.) I would never vote for an individual capable of compromise and actually willing to sit down with the other side, despite their horrendous mistreatment of him. Nope not me... I will vote for Rick Santorum or Mitt Romney for president... anyone but the genius that now resides at Pennsylvania Avenue. I like my president's filled with rhetoric and good one liner's - "Mr. Gorbachev, take down that wall." That way they can take credit for things that will happen years in the future that had nothing to do with them. I want a president with good Christian values, because everyone can see from looking at his terrible family, that Barry is no Christian. No, I Ron Jr. will vote Republican, in honor of my fadder and in honor of all the real true American's. Afterall, only Republicans are true Americans. The rest of you are just a bunch of flag burning hippie commie pinkos. Have a nice day.

Ken 2-20-2012 12:59 PM
Ron Jr.
I gotter give you credit. You are a great fiction writer- now lets hear about the real Omaba.
You know, the one who says that the Lord wants us to pay more taxes. He is so brilliant I guess he must be Wright.I think there's a pun there.

Ken 2-20-2012 01:03 PM
oops
I meant Obama and I said Omaba.
Hey just like Obama. I meant one thing and but I say something else.

Ron Jr. 2-20-2012 01:20 PM
Hey Hen, oops I meant to write Ken. Or maybe I am like Obama too, and you remind me of the old hens on this site - you know the ones who can't handle anyone who disagrees with them. So Hen or Ken, or whatever the heck I meant to write..thanks so much for the compliment. Obama is so full of garbage, I know...those troops who came home from Iraq this year (oh.. another campaign promise delivered), feel the same. So do all the 25 and 26 year olds who now have health care coverage through their parents - you know those poor kids who have to live at home because of the great job W. did in office for 8 years. (wow, another campaign promise delivered). God, I can't wait until they vote this joker out of office, but then again, I am not sure we are gonna get our wish. My fadder is rolling in his grave, but Mitt, Rick, Newt, and Paul aint' gonna beat this terrible guy.

Ken 2-20-2012 02:50 PM
Hey Ron or Con or PVC whatever.
The parents didn't give the 26 or 27 year olds free health coverage -all the other people who had their rates raised gave it to them. Obama is great in giving other people's money away. I agree with one thing, Obama will most probably be reelected. Too many people want free things from the Gov and too many liberals want to feel good about themselves by giving other people's money away.

Ken 2-20-2012 02:54 PM
PS You remind me of an old hen who can't take anyone disagreeing with him.

Marie 2-20-2012 05:31 PM
Ken, don't waste your valuable time with that nut. You know he is certifiable when he said Obama completed all he promised and a 26-27 year old is a "kid".

This guy is in la la land, so ignor him, he cheapens this debate. His remark about "old hens" critizing Obama, shows he is a biggoted A H !

Nancy 2-20-2012 05:41 PM
My name is Nancy, I am not pretending to be someone else like you. And if I were your mother, I would disown you.

Your mother must be so very proud.
That's sarcasm too.

Ken 2-20-2012 06:05 PM
Hi Marie,
I was just killing time while I was making some copies on the printer. But, I do have grave concerns that BO may actually win in November. On the bright side, I was impressed that Cardinal Dolan was elevated 6 months early before Card, Eagan reached 80 and that the church he was assigned to in Rome is OL of Guadalupe.I think the church may influence this election and the spanish vote.BO may have goofed.

Marie 2-20-2012 06:55 PM
Ken, I agree wholeheartedly, but I think saying he goofed up is too kind.

Some still claim he is a good Christian, if he is a good Christian or ANY kind of a Christian, I'm the Queen of Sheba!
Seriously though, I feel this will come back and bite him. Saying Jesus wants us to pay more taxes. If it wasn't so serious, it would be funny.

My office received more info today about Soros and Media Matters, we are checking our sources, and I'll comment on it soon. Do some digging, you'll find it, I'm sure.

Ruth Eyler 2-20-2012 07:16 PM
Ken and Marie, I read this site often, and these recent talks have made me scared. I voted for Obama, even yhough I was and am a republican. I beleived him when he said he would unify us and expose all the corruption in Washington, you know "transparency".
I am so very dissappointed, my late husband, a life long republican must be rolling over in his grave, that I voted for that man.

My great-granddaughter goes to college in NYC, I think it may be City College, but not sure, her mom told me that some of the students said, if Obama looses, they will riot in every city in America, and reverse the election.
What in Heavens name is going on?
When Nixon lost to Kennedy, noone rioted, what has changed in this country. Please say something to me that is encouraging, I worry about my grandchildren and great grandchildren, I'm not worried about myself, I'm old and I will just get pushed off the cliff.
Heaven help us.

Marie 2-20-2012 07:21 PM
Dear Ruth, please don't lose faith. There are many, many good, smart people who are aware of what is happening, and with help from voters like us, we will overcome this problem.
We must realize no one candidate is perfect, but we must be true to the republican vision. See what happens when we stray from our values.
Pray and have faith, and vote republican. Take care.

Mamie Eisenhower 2-20-2012 07:28 PM
Hey Ronnie, Jr. Do you go by another name, say Phil? Your writing styles are very very similar. If you are not one and the same, you two should meet, and form a club.

Elizabeth 2-21-2012 04:58 AM
To Kate Sweeney, ketchup is a vegetable? Where and how does it grow? Pea soup is made from Peas, a vegetable and a Banana shake is made with Bananas, a fruit. This is a big part of the problem with republicans, they hear something from their idols and take it as Gospel, they cannot think for themselves. I know that ketchup is a condiment, like mustard and horseradish and tartar sauce and relishes. Do you eat these things as a vegetable? I don't.

Helen Seitz-Cohen 2-21-2012 10:35 AM
Ruth, I did the same thing, we were republicans for ecer, but my late husband thought McCain's immigration policy was week, so we voted for Obama. He is nothing like he promised. He has divided this country more than
any other president in history. Hopefully our mistake will only last one four years, the next one I hope won't be a radical. I worry also, dor my children and their children, but I have already seen my medical care change cor the worse since Obama became president.
I cannot find a primary care doctor who will take a new medicare patient. I go to a clinic now. I never had to go to a clinic ever before. I have medicare and a supplement, but I am told no new medicare patients. They don't get paid enough from medicare she told me.
I,worry alot about it, but I keep telling myself, have faith, and hopefully things will get better not worse. I should have looked more closely at Obama, before I voted for him. He is a snake oil salesman.

Gene 2-21-2012 10:45 AM
Elizabeth, you are joking right?
Ketchup is made from tomatos. Tomatos grow, just like peas and bananas. Mustard is made from the seeds of the mustard plant, it grows. Horseradish is a plant, it grows. The root is grated to use as the condiment.

Everything on earth is comprised of either, ANIMAL.....VEGETABLE.....MINERAL.

Well, class that's enough for now.

Kate Sweeney 2-21-2012 10:52 AM
Elizabeth, I am a retired nutritionist.
The food groups can come in many forms. If you put a steak in a blender and pureed it, it would look different, but it is still a steak. Ketchup is in the vegetable grouping. It is a tomato in a different form.

Carla 2-21-2012 10:57 AM
Thats true. A pepperoni pizza is gattening, but it has all yhe food groups. Meat - perreroni
Dairy - cheese
grain- crust
Vege-tomato sauce

Elizabeth 2-21-2012 11:07 AM
Capsaicin is used in ointments for pain, it comes from a pepper plant. Do you also eat capsaicin as a vegetable? It sounds as if you have a very unusual type of diet.

Carla 2-21-2012 11:07 AM
That is fattening, typing is new to me.

Kate S. 2-21-2012 11:19 AM
Elizabeth, I think you may be a very young person, so I'll be kind.
Capsaicin is made from chilli peppers, and is found in many foods we eat. It can also be used in a cream or ointment to help with pain, and vrious skin conditions. It is found in pepper spray. It is hot. But it is edible. I do eat chilli peppers, so yes I do eat capsaicin.

If you eat a hamburger, on a bun with cheese and ketchup, you are eating all four food groups, the pizza analogy is correct, although there are less fattening ways to get the food groups.

Kate 2-21-2012 11:28 AM
Tartar sauce is an animal by product, it is made from eggs (chickens).

Eggs and dairy are often linked together on food plans, but eggs are not considered dairy. So tartar sauce would fall in the meat grouping.

These condiments are just part of a well
balanced diet. But they are still broken down into the basic food groupings.

Elizabeth 2-21-2012 11:31 AM
Kate, do you put a blob of ketchup or a blob of capsaicin on your dish as a vegetable? Reagan wanted ketchup to be used as a vegetable for childrens school lunches. Do you recommend parents to give their children ketchup as a vegetable, since you say you are a nutritionist? Do you also recommend them to eat mustard and capsaicin as a vegetable? I find this to be very scary if it is so.

Kate 2-21-2012 12:09 PM
Elizabeth you are missing the point.
If I remember correctly, the Reagan administration determined that as part of a school lunch, if ketchup is on th menu, it is considered a vegetable. But, it is not to be the only vegetable a child eats during the day. They wanted to remove ketchup from the menu sayng it was of no value in our diets. That was proven to be not true, and the ketchup remained, and correctly identified as a vegetable.

I agree with you, if ketchup and only ketchup, mustard etc. are the only sources of vegetables in our childrens diets would be wrong. They are food enhancers, but they do have nutritional value.

The story of ketchup as a vegetable was good for headlines and the opposing party had a field day with it. But, truth be known, at the end of the day, they were correct. Ketchup is a veggie. Take care.

PS. Some people make tomato soup from ketchup. It's inexpensive and not too bad.

Gina 2-21-2012 12:22 PM
To Elizabeth, I'm sure you have eaten foods you didn't give to your kids. My husband loved spicy chilli, but I would never give that to our children. It was nutritional, but not for kids, too spicy, I made them a milder one.

Coffee and tea are ok for adults but not good for our children. I eat horseradish on my steaks, but I wouldn't let the kids eat it. Whiskey and Rye are grains, veggies, but kids shouldn't drink them.
You have to be realistic here.

Elizabeth 2-21-2012 12:35 PM
Not one person, who has contributed to this debate, has admitted to putting ketchup on their dish as a vegetable. I do not consider ketchup a vegetable, and I do not think that any person with any common sense does either.

pvc 2-21-2012 01:10 PM
Hey Ronnie this crowd only believes what seems to be not what really is.the fact that Peggy Noonan was your Dads speech writer may have something to do with people thinking he had alzheimers diesese while president. every step we take forward as a country drives these people crazy. they would rather see the country fail under the stewardship of a black president than accept the fact that he is indeed a product of our society and an american citizen . they can`t even get themselves to say President Obama. so keep it up . their so paranoid that some think you and I are one in the same.Let a fool be made useful by his folly. enjoy yourself there`s plenty of material to work with on this sight.

Greg 2-21-2012 02:01 PM
Elizabeth, you must have a very low IQ, or your reading comprehension is very poor.

Kate explained it very well and very politely to you. She even agreed with you that it shouldn't be considered as the only vegetable in the daily diet.

The government was correct in its identification of ketchup as a veggie, but one of many we should use in our day.
A blob of ketchup on a plate and dip french fries in it is very good and tasty.
The french fry and the ketchup are veggies.

Ray 2-21-2012 02:06 PM
Hey, hey, hey, it's PVC!

People have said Reagan, Nixon, Carter, Kennedy, we know they are presidents, as well as President Obama, it is for ease of typing and speed. Nice try. We respect the office, but are not happy with his performance.

Elizabeth 2-21-2012 05:05 PM
Greg, you are the one who cannot comprehend the written word.Kate Sweeney, in her initial posting above, cited the accomplishments of Reagan and said that declaring ketchup a vegetable was one of them. I do not consider ketchup a vegetable, it is a condiment. In fact, when you dip your french fry into a blob of ketchup, you are using it as a CONDIMENT, not a vegetable. Would you really accept ketchup as the vegetable of the day at a restaurant? But like I said earlier, not one of you have said you use it as a vegetable. Just because your idol, Reagan called it a vegetable, none of you will question it. Apparently you cannot think for yourselves.

Elizabeth 2-21-2012 06:33 PM
Kate Sweeney, I have looked many different places but could not find one where ketchup is called a vegetable. It is a condiment. But my point about Republicans not being able to think for themselves was proved here. This was a very trivial thing to be arguing about, and yet five other people would agree with you. I find this extremely frightening. Not one of you would say that you would eat ketchup as a vegetable, yet you would argue that it is so. Have you looked to see if you could find a place in a dictionary or encyclopedia where ketchup is defined as a vegetable? Let me know if you do. This is the problem, too many people cannot think.

Greg 2-21-2012 08:40 PM
Elizabeth, one last attempt, ANIMAL, VEGETABLE, OR MINERAL.

Everything on earth is one of those categories.

Ketchup is made from a tomato, which is a vegetable.

Granted, you would not order ketchup as a side veggie, that's true, but the keychup issue 30 years ago, was ro determine id it jad any nutritional value, and it does. Just like a tomato.

Joe 2-21-2012 09:20 PM
Well he did it again. PVC said President Obama is a black president. Stop bringing his color into the debate.
No one else is.

I don't give a fig what color he is, or isn't, I don't like his policies.

Marie 2-21-2012 09:28 PM
Anyone who thinks the economy is growing, is not paying close attention.
2011 growth rate, 1.7% the lowest since the recession started. There was a slight spike at the year end, but the average for entire year is 1.7%.

China is 8% ..wonder why?

Elaine 2-21-2012 09:42 PM
I have been reading these entries. I din't remember the Reagan ketchup issue, but I could figure it out crom these remarks.

I far as I can make out, a tomato has a certain nutritional value. Ketchup, is a tomato, pureed with vinegar and water, and has the same nutritional value. So having some ketchup on you lunch plate, is the same as having a tomato on your plate.

That would be the same as eating guacamole or eating an avocado.
So, what's the problem, makes sense to me, it the nutritional value that's important, not what form it is in.

Ray 2-22-2012 12:18 AM
Why was Reagan speech writer, Peggy Noonan, insulted?

I have never heard or read anything negative relating to her publicly or privately. So please back up your remark.

Elizabeth 2-22-2012 04:48 AM
Ketchup is not a TOMATO, it is a condiment, that is made with tomatoes. Have you learned to use a dictionary yet?

Who remembeers where you were when the brooklyn dodgers won the World Series in 1955? What a day, what a night. It was wonderful.
I didn't and don't like baseball but that was a day to remember. They had dummys hanging all over the place.
Also who knows why they were called the Dodgers?

The Bartender 2-17-2012 05:41 AM
They were called the "Trolley Dodgers" because of all the Brooklyn people who ran between and "dodged" the trolley cars. Can't take credit for being there . . . someone told me about that.

Stephen O'Donnell 2-17-2012 07:19 AM
The Dodgers were also known, by fans and sportwriters, as the Grays, the Grooms, the Bridegrooms, the Superbas and the Robins. They played, at one time, in Washington Park located at 2rd Street and 3rd Ave. a portion of the outfield wall still stands today. As an aside, they once changed their color to green in the late 30's. The color change lasted that one year.

Gina 2-17-2012 01:13 PM
I was only a kid when they won that year, but I remember my dad and uncles making a big deal of it.

Unrelated to baseball, I did remember an incident when I was a teen. We would all pile in a car and drive out to the Island. There was a pizza restaurant near Kennedy Airport, it was still Idelwild then. It was called Pizza King, it looked like the restaurant in the movie "Goddfellas". Now we were all Italian/american kids except my boyfriend, he was a tall, skinny blond blue eyed Dane. We get seated, the place was packed, a lot of men in dark suits, and my blond boyfriend says loudly, "it looks like wop heaven in here"
OMG he was physically tossed out and roughed up a little. We drove away quickly. What an idiot he was.

He still twitches when I tell that story, we've been married 46 years. Oh memories.

love it 2-17-2012 01:16 PM
Gina, that is so funny, something out of "goodfellas". lol

Gina 2-17-2012 02:07 PM
Oh I just realized the misspelling.lol
I meant goodfellas. Thanks

Kevin Hardy 2-17-2012 03:39 PM
This is a vague memory, and everybody I could ask about it has passed away. My grandparents lived by Ebbetts Field, and you could see the games from the upper floors and roof. I remember as a little kid with my parents, trying to see the players run around the field from their roof. I wish I could remember more.

pepinu kehasema 2-17-2012 06:26 PM

Does anybody remember where they were when the lights went out on November 9, 1965?

I was working on Court St. and Joralemon St. But I lived on Ave. N and Utica Ave. I had to walk all the way home in high heals. I think it was about 10 miles.

My husband is from California, and he heard about the blackout, but doesn't believe that most people had to walk home. I tried to explain to him what a nightmare it was.

Ken 2-16-2012 06:14 AM
I had been discharged from the Army and had just started going to City College at night. I was walking up Convent Ave at 127 St in Manhattan. It got dark and a guy told me I had better get out of this neighborhood. I got a couple of busses to downtown Bklyn and walked home to Park Slope.

Ken 2-16-2012 06:36 AM
P.S. at eight ave and union st the lights were on. there was no blackout in Park Slope.

Ana Marie 2-16-2012 07:48 AM
Who really cares. Enough with the nostalgia.

Henry Consiglia 2-16-2012 07:54 AM
Right on Ana Marie, I've been waiting for some one to get sick of all the remember this and that crap. Thats why we lost so many people on this site. People became really bored with it.

Ron Clyne 2-16-2012 08:46 AM
I was up at Bishop Ford at Basketball Practice and the lights in the Gym went dim for a second and then came back on. Took the Smith Street Bus (B75) and did my usual transfer at 9th Street to the Lorraine Street Bus (B77). As we rode toward the Hook you could see that the lights were out. Very Spooky. My brother answered the door with a candle in his hand. Remember it well.

Anthony Tazzi 2-16-2012 10:45 AM
Just an observation. I have been teading this site for a few years now. People mention someones passing, and then a person pipes in and complains that is sounds like the obituary column. Then people start discussing politics, and again complaints about the topic, with name calling and threats to leave the site. Then new names pop up and they are called names and the web master is asked ro block them, now a new name pops up with a good memory topic, the big blackout of 1965. The entire east coast went dark from Canada to the Carolinas. They wrote books about it.

But yes folks, we have still have complainers who don't like the subject matter.

Well I have something to say to them.
You are rude, narrow minded, unfriendly, insensitive and childish.

That's the problem with society today. All people worry about is themselves, the ME society.

Marie 2-16-2012 11:20 AM
Hi Judy, I worked on Cpurt St. too. I ledt work and managed ro be pushed onto a bus by A & S and pushed out the rear door...all at the same stop! What a mess. We lived in Mill Basin and I thought I would never make it home. I wore heals too, my feet were killing me.
My dad was standing outside with a flashlight waiting for me to get home. It took about 5 hours I think, I was only 17
right out of high school.

Carla 2-16-2012 01:47 PM
To Ana Marie and Henry, throw out a topic you think is interesting, constructive criticism, not destructive criticism.
Thank you.

So? 2-16-2012 02:12 PM
Ana Marie and Henry: the purpose of this site is for former South Brooklynites to reminisce about "the good old days". Sometimes we do talk about politics and freedom but if we bore you, feel free to add something really exciting, so far you haven't.

Pat 2-16-2012 03:07 PM
I was workin in Martins Dept. store. The lights went out at 5:26pm. Imhad just arrived to work the late shift. All hell broke loose. People came running up from the subway, which had stopped, very dim emergency lights came on, some people broke the glass cases in the jewelry dept. and looted the store, I suppose several had the same problem.
We were ushered out so security could secure the doors. The was no panic in the streets, but people did get very aggressive trying to get on a bus. I lived near Marine Park, we walked up Flatbush Ave. we formed small groups and walked along talking and singing. As people approached their home turf, the groups got smaller and smaller.
Very scary time.

Ana Marie 2-16-2012 05:03 PM
ok Carla and so you want nostalgia and interesting.... here goes, who killed who at Gabes Bar back around 75 if any one remembers please write and tell us. how bout why did they kidnap Skinny Andys youngest kid... gambling debts? maybe, could be. oh an who use to patronize Gejoes Pizzaria corner of Wolcott and Richards st. very sucesscul Pizzeria, was it the pizza that made them so good or some otber product? hows that for interesting? xoes any body remember? blog on what do you remember about tbese good times?

Tony "no nose" 2-16-2012 05:12 PM
Hey Ana Marie, I do know.....my family did that.....but we don't talk about the family business. Caio!

Henry 2-16-2012 05:13 PM
hey how many of you kids went to school with the Jensen brothers. can you name the ones that died of drug overdoses? and what was thier drug of cboice ? can you name the kids that defaced the doughboy memorial in Coffey Park while huffin glue and tbe VFW moved it to Van Brunt St. to keep it safe? and who can forget Eddies candy store on Van Brunt st. who used to sell our kids glue?

Ana Marie 2-16-2012 05:19 PM
hey Tony no nose that wasnt a family rub out that was a punk kid that wanted to be a gangster. who died a painful death himself.

Joe 2-16-2012 05:21 PM
To ana marie, try looking at the glass half full for once.

There were many good, decent families who raised their kids the best they could. Good memories. Good family values, honest hard working people who don 't want to lose that important part of who they are.
There is a lot more good than bad that came out of the Hook. I feel sorry for you that you had such a bad experience living there.

Vinny Batz 2-16-2012 05:25 PM
oh oh I know Iknow Johnny boy. yeah i served time with him in prison. bjg man on the street Big Punk in Prison

Ana Marie 2-16-2012 05:30 PM

Vinny 2-16-2012 05:34 PM
To Tony no nose what was the guys first and last name for 100. I was there tbat spring night .

Frank 2-16-2012 05:37 PM
Every village has its idiot, we just found ours.

Jean 2-16-2012 05:49 PM
Interesting doesn't have to be bad.
Judy's top story about the big blackout is very interesting. They wrote books about it, made TV movies about it. Many people were stuck in elevators. The birth rate 9 months later skyrocketed. 30 million people and 80,000 square miles were effected from Ontario, Canada and 8 states in the northeast.

David Ryan 2-16-2012 05:54 PM
i remember some good times. i remember Fr. Schoenenberger at Visitation. I was an alter boy, he was so drunk serving mass, he would forget what he was talking about. fond memories

Ana 2-16-2012 06:02 PM
Im not saying any of theze topics were bad or good, just more interesting than remember the kids in Mrs. Jones class at PS 30. and who made the best ice cream. Im not angry. I wouldnt trade my life in the Hook for anything

Frank 2-16-2012 06:04 PM
I take that back, we have a new candidate.

Lou 2-16-2012 06:15 PM
Thank you Ana. That's all anybody wanted to hear. My family lived on Wolcott, Coffee, Sullivan, Conover and Van Brunt. They started there in the 1880's. and some cousins are still there. Murder, Inc. had its roots there. Crime is in every inner city. But for the most part we had safe, happy childhoods.
I have in laws that were raised in an affluent town in Ohio, and still
had kids end up in jail. That can happen any where. Red Hook did have its problems, but let the folks here remember the good stuff.

The comment about the priest is unnecessary.

David Ryan 2-16-2012 06:15 PM
OK Frank what do you have interesting to contrbute ?

Ana Marie 2-16-2012 06:21 PM
Lou you are absolutely right but i was called out by some one that was clueless. and i didnt make any comment about any priest

Lou 2-16-2012 06:31 PM
Ana Marie, I know you did not make the priest remark. I tried to separate my comments by spacing them, apparently I failed. I know there is a lot of rough stuff from the old area, but many of us like the old memories.

Frank 2-16-2012 06:34 PM
Fr. Schoenberger was my uncle.

Patsy 2-16-2012 06:47 PM
Frank, correct me if I am wrong, Father was suffering from early stages of Alzheimer's desease, not drunk. My aunt worked in the rectory and that's what the problem.

The Bartender 2-17-2012 05:01 AM
To Ana Marie:

The name of the person who was killed in Gabes was Dennis Moganicki (sp?); Tom and George Jensen died from the horrors of drugs (heroin) that destroyed many good kids (and families). As far the pizza place goes, I think we all knew that and if you didn't do drugs, you stood away.

There were so many, many good and decent families that raised their children the best they could. When drugs entered, it was a battle to get them back. Unfortunately, many do not make it.

How about how many of our young men did not come home from Viet Nam? How many did come home?

Red Hook was not without their problems, but no neighborhood was perfect (no matter what others tell you.) Growing up in Red Hook prepared you for life. Things were not handed to you. You worked for it. You answered for your mistakes. You learned.

Maybe people goe on the site to think about the better days in Red Hook, which is great.

As far as the blackout, I was home, watching TV in my living room with my family being entertained, I believe, by Paul Witchell (can't be sure, but it was a kid's show.)

Rich 2-17-2012 06:02 AM
Bartender, you didnt have to dig into some of the horrors of the past. I have to say good job. Please lets try to respect each other and remember the dead still have remaining family members that may still be hurting

Anthony Tazzi stated it well. I agree with you 100%!

Geri A Nunziato-Rath 2-19-2012 10:29 AM
Oh yes, I was working on Remsen St. I remember meeting my boyfriend later my husband John Rath, and we took the 61 to go home from work, as we were going down Van Brunt St., We can see the street lights goiny out as the bus passed them. It was weird. John got off the bus at Wolcott and I got off at Coffey, I couldn't see a hand in front of me, someone, I don't know who, had a flashlight and escorted me home, to this day I don't know who it was, I would still like to thank him. Does anyone remember the 77 blackout? You could see the difference in the people, we had no looting in 65, but in 77, it was a near riot condition.

Marie 2-19-2012 01:07 PM
Geri, there was a little looting in A & S, my boyfriend, later husband worked there. Very minor, but I agree, the city chaned and the 77 was quite bad.
I walked home from Court St to Mill Basin/ Bergen Beach, everyone was friendly and we looked out for each other. I don't think that would happen today.

Geri A Nunziato-Rath 2-19-2012 05:50 PM
Your right Marie, things surely changed. From 65 to 77 which is just 12 short years the drastic change in people. From helping each other to looting and stealing from each other. I am glad I won't be here to see what this world is going to be like down the road, I hope it gets better at least for my 16 month old granddaughter.

Marie 2-19-2012 06:16 PM
Geri,it's funny you said that, my husband and I say the same thing. We're glad we're as old as we are. I don't think our world is changing for the better. We have a 16 month old grandson and 10 others up to 18years old. The two older one don't have a clue about politics, and worse, they don't care. That lack of interest is just what those who want to bring down this country are hoping for.

I hope and pray we can get this country
back on the right track. We ate all Americans, we are not enemies with each other.

Marie 2-19-2012 06:19 PM
We are all Americans, typo, sorry.

Geri A Nunziato-Rath 2-20-2012 06:17 AM
You said it all Marie, I just have the one granddaughter, but I worry for her sake. Your right, the kids don't care and they have no clue. I will be 65 in March, and I would not want to live my life again. I had the best life possible. I was born and raised in Red Hook, we waren't rich, my dad was a Long Shoreman, my mom a stay at home mom, something you don't hear anymore. Our life was simple but we had everything we ever wanted in that tiny neighborhood. We had people who cared for each other and looked after each other, and we grew up with morals, a conscience and values, and our faith in God was strong. You don't see that anymore Marie, I pray every week that things will change for the better. See I just made a new friend. Keep in touch.

Marie 2-20-2012 05:47 PM
Geri, thank you so much for the kind words. Since I started blogging this site my faith in this country is strengthening. There are so many on here who feel as we do. If people would just open their eyes and ears they would see what is happening. God Bless you and pray.

Carol Lafferty 2-20-2012 08:35 PM
I was dying my hair in the sink. Lights went out. Water stopped. We were on a pump. Panic set in. So did dye.
Next day I looked like a chinese hairless dog. Hair came out in clumps. I had to wear a wig for 9 months. What a nightmare. My boyfriend left me for a girl with real hair. His loss.

Whether you like FOX news or not, this should worry you. Media Matters, a non-profit progressive research center, that is very supportive of our President, has been very open about its mission to have private investigators "dig" into the private lives of all the FOX anchors, hosts, management and everyone in between. Their objective is to find "embarrassing" information, and use it to discredit them as a serious new organization. That to me was bad enough, but their final statement really terrified me, they don't like FOX and they don't agree with some of their reporting, so they want to

SILENCE DISSENT

Those two words should terrify all of us. Thats what the Communists did.

June 2-15-2012 05:33 PM
Marie, they are also hiring attorneys to search for any reason to drag Fox News theough the courts and hopefully destroy them as a news source. They don't want any news organizations that run stories not favorable to President Obama.
It was also reported last week, that they are in direct contact with the White House, and they print EXACTLY what the White House tells them to.
This close relationship with the White House, implies that their attack on Fox News has the White House blessing.
Silencing dissent is un-American.

Ray 2-15-2012 06:25 PM
The liberal news is not worried about Fox or any conservative group doing the same to them, because they have seen the conservatives don't play dirty like they do. They can't handle opposing view points, so that need to silence them so we only get their propaganda.
This is not what our Founding Fathers intended this country to become, and what our veterans fought and died for in several wars.

Gisele 2-15-2012 06:43 PM
Media Maters CEO David Brock, can no longer deny the connection between his organization and George Soros. Soros has funded Media Matters, by laundering his donations through his other holdings using his assistant Peter Lewis to handle the transactions.
This is bigger than most people realize.

Tony 2-16-2012 02:57 AM
Ray, are you kidding me? Conservatives news stations and commentators don't play dirty tricks? All you have to do to disprove that statement is say "Rush Limbaugh".

pvc 2-16-2012 07:25 AM
I don`t believe anything and I mean anything I hear about politics that comes from fox.why not watch Morning Joe he is very conservative and has an open show politically. check out the guest list you will find it to be fully balanced and fair. I don`t agree with everything he says but I don`t call him a liar either. It`s a good show but not onesided as is FOX.

Bobby D. 2-16-2012 07:47 AM
Newspapers and news media is supose to present the news objectively with out inserting thier own opinions. (at least in America anyway)problem is when collectively you have a bunch of journalist that inflict there opinions on the unsuspecting public many of us believe it as true because we trust what we read as well as whats broadcasted as true. Whats even more dangerous is when you have TV execs that use the news media to promote thier own agendas. Very dangerous.

To PVC and Bobby, the point is there is an organization, extremely leftist, that is attempting to silence the voice of opposition. We can't have that in America. It is not important that they are after FOX, it is dangerous to have that happen. I wouldn't want them to go after CNN or MSNBC or Rush for that matter.
We must not start silencing each other, do you see how dangerous that would be for all of us.

That information has been out there since 2009, all the news organizations ran stories on it. The CEO's of all the
big news stations met and discussed their options. None of them liked what they learned about Media Matters.
Media Matters war against FOX was derailed slightly, but covertly they were still digging for dirt. The White House likes Mexia Matters because they do their bidding, so they (media matters) feel protected.
I agree with what Marie is saying, we should all be very concerned when we hear the words SILENCE DISSENT.

Jean 2-16-2012 11:27 AM
FOX does lean right, but it is not one sided as PVC suggests. They have Bill Bechtel, Geraldo Rivera, Alan Colmes to name a few. They have talking heads one from each side of the issue.

Ray 2-16-2012 02:56 PM
Tony, Rush Limbaugh is Talk Radio, he is not a news organization. He is purely opinion.

The other news organizations have news formats as well as opinion segments and they all do the bidding of their corporate bosses.

Ken 2-16-2012 03:17 PM
I think both the left and the right should appreciate and respect the two quotes that I found by Thomas Jerrefson.

"The only security of all is in a free press. The force of public opinion cannot be resisted when permitted freely to be expressed. The agitation it produces must be submitted to. It is necessary, to keep the waters pure." --Thomas Jefferson to Lafayette, 1823. ME 15:491
=
"The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them." --Thomas Jefferson to Edward Carrington, 1787. ME 6:57
=
A controled media has no freedom. As Gisele and Marie said this is very dangerous what Media matters and George Sorros and Obama are doing.

Gisele 2-16-2012 03:40 PM
Excellent, Ken.

Carla 2-16-2012 03:48 PM
Did a little research, FOX is far ahead the pack in all 8 news categories, consistantly.

Example: 2/15/2012 stats

FOX & Friends. 1,098,000 homes
Morning Joe. 421,000
Squawk Box. 129,000
Morn express. 267,000
(Meade)

Many, many people appreciate FOX.

Marie 2-16-2012 03:59 PM
Thank you for those quotes, Ken. This issue is bigger than Democrat vs Republican or liberal vs conservative. It effects all of use and the freedoms we currently enjoy. Please remove our labels, and stand together on this issue.

Bob F. 2-17-2012 05:09 AM
When Apple came out with the MAC you put your files in "folders". In the PC days you put your files in a "directory". Coming from Red Hook if someone asked me what was a directory, I'd say "It's da little building by da church where the priest lives, "da rectory" :-)

Ken 2-17-2012 05:33 AM
Tony
I'll give you an example of what may be controlled news coverage. Bill O' Rielly broke this story last monday and Rush Limbaugh covered it on tuesday. It is an op-ed in the Post on wednesday. It concerns the pre schooler in N. Carolina that had her lunch box inspected by a State food inspector who determined that the turley & cheese sandwich, bannana, chips and apple juice did not meet US Dept of Agriculture standards. The inspector tossed the lunch, gave the child chicken nuggets and billed the parents $1.50. This story reflects negatively on Mrs Obama's nutrition program and the state control of our children. I think that the main stream press delibertly ignored it. I may be wrong since I don't or can't listen or read all outlets. Have you heard of this story? If so where. This is an honest question. Lets all learn something- good or bad. Anybody can answer.

Bill/vet 2-17-2012 11:39 AM
Carmine on 2-15-12 on this site, under one of Farhouds posts told the food police story. He got a slight sarcastic response back. People must think we make these stories up.

If people just get a few minutes of news at supper time, they don't have a clue what's going on.

AND THATS WHAT OBAMA IS HOPING FOR!

Marie 2-17-2012 11:52 AM
I heard of the story about the food police because I watch FOX and CNN, no one else in my family knew of it, they don't watch the news, and printed news had nothing on it, as far as I can tell.

One news show guest said "the camels nose is in the tent".

This current administration is imposing itself into every aspect of our lives, food, religion, sex. I don't want the camel in the tent.

Mike 2-17-2012 02:15 PM
Someone mentioned MORNING JOE, with Joe Scarborough. The recent stats show there is consistantly a lineup of predominantly liberal vs conservative guest, as much as 10:1.

Joe calles himself a republican, but he is really a RINO.

Phil Necco 2-17-2012 03:19 PM
Bob F..cute joke, but sounds more like "da bronks"

Greg 2-17-2012 04:17 PM
Those idiots in that little girls school, took her good, well balanced healthy lunch, and made her eat, greesy, fried chicken???? nuggets. Does anyone really know whats in a nugget?
What the heck is going on. I realize our kids need to eat right, but see what happens when we let the government in. We give them an inch and they take a mile. Once big brother gets a hold, he'll never let go.

Ray 2-17-2012 04:52 PM
We did a little experiment this past week. We have five TV's, some new some old, but we put a different news show on each one and left them on. We were home all day and evening to learn as much as possible from each show.
Only CNN and Fox covered the "food police" story to any extent. Almost nothing on MSNBC, ABC, CBS AND NBS, literally nothing about it.
Those out there that don't have cable, are just getting the free local channels and are not getting the whole picture.
I have several relatives who don't have cable and they can 't believe it when I mention some of the news on the cable channels. They look at me as if I made it up.

Doing the 5 TV experiment proved what I had always suspected, our news is being selected and screened and redacted to control what we get.

Ken 2-17-2012 04:59 PM
To rub salt into the Media Matters wound - I just learned on Bill O'Rielly that Media Matters is TAX emempt. They violates all the IRS rules for exemption i.e. especially they are not to be interfering into politics. But, who controls the IRS. Yes BHO.

Toni 2-17-2012 05:13 PM
Ray, how did you watch 6 shows on 5 TV's?

Ray 2-17-2012 05:18 PM
We already knew FOX and CNN ran the story, so we set the TV's on the other stations, flipped back and forth on the fox/cnn set.

Marie 2-17-2012 05:38 PM
Ken, Media Matters is a 501(c)3 organization. IRS guidelines is that in order to qualify for that status, your organization must offer charitable and/or educational work, and not to engage in any political activities.

They violate these requirements on all three. They are solely an attack organization, doing the bidding of the far left.

As it stands now, a doner can donate money to them and take a tax deduction. George Soros does just that. He has "donated" billions to them.

When their CEO David Brock announced that their attack on FOX had changed from a "containment" effort to a "full blown war", thousands of FOX viewers filed complaints to the IRS.
The complaint form is :

Tax Exempt Organization Complaint
(referral) Form. 13909

Media Matters has apparently seen the writing on the wall, and is already forming a new corporation to do its dirty work, if the IRS yanks their exempt status. Heads up everybody, this is getting very dirty.

pvc 2-18-2012 04:03 PM

Carla 2-18-2012 05:35 PM
Pvc....you are sooooo funny. What are you 15...16. When you want to get serious about this stuff let us know.

pvc 2-19-2012 10:31 AM
carla If you would like to go back to the Bush era that created this mess ,you go right ahead. I just don`t want to follow you and others that think as you do. the reporters you mentioned are generally castoffs from other sane stations. Pat Buchanan will be on soon screaming censorship. lets forget the fact that his recent book is somewhat racist , homophobic and slightly anti semetic. I wouldn`t have a nut like him working for me, but FOX will. As far as the dark conspiracy of blocking truth on TV is concerned that rates right up there with the Kennedy Conspiracy.

Carla 2-19-2012 01:38 PM
Pvc, we are polar opposites in this debate. Both sides have their extremist nuts, but the controlled media is not a myth.

Carla 2-19-2012 01:56 PM
Pvc, we are polar opposites in this debate. Both sides have their extremist nuts, but the controlled media is not a myth.

Greg 2-19-2012 02:13 PM
I suppose watching Toure', that 9-11 truther nut job as a guest on morning joe is OK. Each station puts some fruitloops on to appease the fruitloops who watch them.

I think the voters who went for Obama are just too embarrassed to admit he is a gross dissappointment, they would rather go down with the ship, than admit they were wrong about him.

Ray 2-19-2012 02:34 PM
Pvc, we could go back and forth all day long, pointing jerks in both parties. But the distinction Imwould like to make is how those jerks, and their related stories are portrayed in the press.

Pvc memtioned Joe Wilson, who called the president a liar, during the Health Care adress in Congress. He was wrong for doing that, and he was called out for it and sanctioned. The news had a field day with that.

Maxine Waters, that lovely, well mannered, even tempered democratic congresswoman called John Boehner, and Eric Cantor, and ALL the republicans DEMONS. FOX and CNN covered the story well. The others virtually nothing.

Michele Obama invited rapper Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr. Professionally known as "Common" to the White House for a poetry reading, knowing full well he had called for the "hanging and burning of President George W. Bush." talk about racist!

There is a double standard here, with the press and how affronts to certain people are ignored and others are blown way out of proportion.

The facts are there for anyone to research.

If Obama is still allowed to keep blaming Bush for HIS failures, then the next president after Obama will need at least 8 years to dig us out of the mess Obama will leave.

Marie 2-19-2012 08:10 PM
Hi Phil, your reference to Media Matters, as a conspiracy, likened to the Kennedy Assination, is incorrect. A conspiracy is a covert action, unknown to the general public. Media Matters CEO, David Brock is very open about his mission to silence dissenting views.

pvc 2-22-2012 04:14 AM
marie there are about a gazillion things that are wrong with this country as is another conspiracy is not what is needed at this point.

Gasoline is up 91% since Obama got in office.
The economy is not getting better. He's wrong on so many levels.
His new budget numbers are rediculous.
I wont vote for him again.

Bobby D. 2-15-2012 02:37 PM
Gasoline prices are up because of the threat of Iraq blocking one of the biggest thorofares of oil exportation. Many of the oil producing nations are using alternate routes to ship there oil, and some countries have slowed production. The president didnt raise the price of gas to pay for some of the programs in his new budget.

Greg 2-15-2012 03:00 PM
The situation in the Middle East is getting worse by the minute. Syria is killing thousands. Egypt is holding 19 Americans hostage, one is Sam Lahood
son of transportation secry. Ray Lahood.
The events in the Middle East dont happen in a vacuum, except for the vacuum of cogent US stratergy.
President Obama pursued a diplomatic stratergy of charm and restraint, attempting to broker peace between Israel and Palestine, engaging with Syria amd Iran and withdrawing from Iraq, now we are seeing the results.
A weak US foreign policy, just
Iike Jimmy Carters, puts all of us in a perilous position.

Ken 2-15-2012 07:00 PM
I believe that the price of oil/gasoline is determined mostly by the supply of oil available on the world market. Obama cannot directly control how much oil OPEC produces. When they drop production prices go up. If Obama would let more drilling of US oil occur it would increase the supply and decrease the price of gas in the US. Even the threat of more US drilling drives the price of oil down.

Marie 2-15-2012 07:24 PM
Ken that's exactly right. The news addressed just that tonight. The President has stalled the pipeline, but threw billions to Solyndra, and we all know how that turned out. We can't drill in the Gulf of Mexico, but China can and will.

Rita 2-15-2012 07:40 PM
Ken my point exactly. His economic stratergy is flawed. His foreign policy is flawed. Both are weakening us.
Either directly or indirectly, he is hurting this country.

pvc 2-16-2012 07:39 AM
oil prices are up and it`s Obamas fault.Oil is traded on the futures market and that in and of itself drives prices up.we also pay less for gasoline that almost any other country on the planet, china included#@*%!mon people face it the guy`s doing a bang up job and those who wish to be his replacement are comporable to Pain, Bachman, Caine , the guy from Texas, Huntsman did I leave anyone out ? the republicans are eating their own while the economy continues to improve. the GOP throws names like sol olinskey around like he were Stalin. for petes sake he was a community activiser for the poor. your opinions are just that and have no significance beyond that point. Now santorum want`s to talk about Birth control. I wish his parents would have praticed it.

Nick 2-16-2012 11:14 AM
Bang up job! You must be kidding.
The GOP didn't being up Saul Ailinsky, Obama mentioned him in his books as one of his mentors and he taught Ailinskys teachings about soc ial ism in school. Stop drinking the KOOL AID.

Jean 2-16-2012 12:37 PM
Pvc, its obvious you are an Obama supporter. I'm not, but we have that right to support who we want. I read your posts but you lessen their value when you make comments like the one about Santorum. He's a decent guy, maybe too nice to be prez. No one on here has said anything like that about Mr. Obama. His criticisms are about his policies and track record, not personal.
We have all said things we later wished we hadn't, so I'll assume that's the case here.

Jean 2-17-2012 12:50 PM
This gasoline price issuemay not be the presidents fault directly, but indirectly he is partially responsible. History has showed us that as a presidents popularity dips, the speculators get nervous and the price of gas goes up.

The agrument that we pay much less for a gallon of gas than much of the world is not a valid argument. I still have close family in Europe, their cars would fit in the trunk of most of our vehicles.
The countries in Europe are the size of some of our states. It is not uncommon for a worker in the U.S. driving an hour or two to work. Most in Europe work close enough to thier job to walk or ride a bike or a short drive. So even though they pay more for their imperial gallon of gas, they use much leas than we do here, because of the size of our vehicles and our driving distances. High gas prices are felt here more than elsewhere.

Ray 2-17-2012 02:04 PM
To the person called PVC, a few times I have noticed your rebuttal to the conservative/republican argument is to call our comments are just opinion and not based on fact. If you would take the time to research these comments with an open mind, you would see that they are factual, not opinion. Your comment that Obama is doing "a bang up job" is just opinion, yours.

There are several very well informed people on this site, putting forth very important, informative, well researched statements.

Obama would be proud of you supporting him so passionately, but also, so blindly.

Obama said early in his term, if he couldn't turn this economy around, he would be a one term president. I'll hold him to that. He's a big spender (look at his new proposed budget) whos answer to a problem is to throw money at it. That's a fact, you can't deny that.

pvc 2-18-2012 07:16 AM
I make one comment and get so many responses. It seems I`ve hit the not so funny bone with some of you who have responded. to Obamas statment I`ll turn the economy around. He has. that`s a fact. how about Mission accomplished by Bush? that wasn`t a fact. as to Santoum . just count the amount of kids he has and then check how many years he is married . He and his wife in all probability pratice birth control. that makes him a phony. this by the way is an assumption on my part since I can only use my power of observation to come up with that opinion. I`ve recieved any number of jokes about the president as most republicans refuse to call him. you talk about good taste, how about that nitwit calling the president a liar while he was giving a speech. the guy ws a congressman for petes sake. if this is the kind of fair mindedness you`re talking about then you`ve gotten what you deserve. and that`s ME and a wonderful man , a visionary if you will as our leader. WOW I GOT A LITTLE CARRIED AWAY THERE> We now end withA the playing of America the Beautiful. Mitts favorite song.

Alan 2-18-2012 09:13 AM
Pvc, you always have to get sarcastic.....unnecessary. You get many traponses to you OPINION because hou seem to be the only one who has that opinion.

Santorum and number of kids. Thats beyond the pale. I was married 15 years and we could only get pregnant once, one beautiful girl. No birth control. Nature does that sometimes. I believe Mrs. S had miscarriages also.

We got a wolf in sheeps clothing with Obama, he's no Democrat!

pvc 2-18-2012 04:00 PM
alan I get real not sarcastic. you don`t like the sarcasm and I don`t like bigots and raceists , so what`s your point?

Jimmy 2-18-2012 06:17 PM
Phil, I didn't like Nixon, I was real mouthy about my dislike, but no one called me a racist. Just bacause I don't like President Obama record and policy does not a racist make me!

All the blacks that didn't like Bush, are you calling them racists?

The white voters of this country are hog tied, we have to approve of Mr. Obamas policy or we are racists. What a lot of crap! You are the racist, throwing that label out at everyone who differs with your opinion. That is a very empty, shallow, sophomoric response to valid statements. I think you can do better than that.

pvc 2-19-2012 10:40 AM
Jimmy I never said everyone who doesn`t like the presidents governabce of this country is a racist. I voted for nixon by the way ,twice. If in fact you are a racist then it applies to you if not then it doesn`t . so it`s up to you to make that choice or distinction not mine. I know how I feel , I vote for the person I think is best for the country, I then cross my fingers and vote, just like everyone else.

Len 2-19-2012 06:51 PM
It's Phil, isn't it? I have been reading these posts for about 6 weeks now. Pretty interesting stuff, I must say. I beg to differ with you, you do accuse most folks of racism or bigotry if they say they are not in favor of our presidents record.
I looked back and found several of your posts reflecting just that. Some people even have blacks in their family and you still pulled the race card with them.
I know we are not all going to have the same political views. That is not the problem. The problem is that ANY criticism of his policy cannot and snould not be labeled as racist. That nullifies the debate. Real issues can't be discussed civilly, and with meaning. We get nothing accomplished. Granted, there will always be bigotry and bias, and racism, but for the most part, no one on this site, with one or two exceptions has showed any racism toward Mr. Obama.

When you want to respond to a blog against Mr. Obama, that has valid, researchable facts listed, don't keep throwing Bush into the mix. State your support for him, and state facts, not just opinion. You are one of the very few on here who is supporting Mr. Obama, and I am not trying to change your mind. I do want to make sure that the truth is out there.

One more point if I may. You said you voted for Nixon and Reagan, me too. I just cannot fathom how you could change that dramatically, and support Mr. Obama. Remember, Bush is out of it now.

I live in New York about 10 years now. I read this page occasionally. I love America, this is my home now. I will never live in Palestine again. It is disturbing that the people born here complain so much when there is so much suffering and exploitation going on in other countries. Whats ruining this country is the lack of concern by Americas youth. They are so dis engaged. They no nothing of the government, how it works. Or how it can work for them. We worry that such a great country is about 20th in the world for education because our educators are not teaching anything important. Just techniques of how to pass a test. I went to high school here it was a joke. My parents took me out of Public school and put me into Poly Prep. That was a joke too, just cost them more money. Now that Im in college Im not learning very much either, but i need a degree so i can get a job with a major research organization where no Americans work because American kids want to be athletes or work with computers(where there are no jobs) the girls want to be models or get married and have babies and have the man take care of them . If Americas youth doesnt get it together soon

I'm not a citizen yet. My goal is to be an American by 2013. I cannot a cept your endorsement for president because I am not American born. But some day when I have more wisdom maybe I can run for congress. I understand what America needs.its .ot a political party. Its people who will stand up for whats right to keep the country strong and disreguard offending liberals. I hope for the future of a strong America.

Bobby/Bklyn 2-15-2012 06:58 PM
Farhoud, it's not that easy to disregrd the offending liberals, they don't play fair. I wish you much luck, I hope when you become a citizen and graduate, you will contribute your knowledge and skills to help keep America strong.

Continued... If we continue the way we are America will no longer be a super power. Countries like Korea will tell America you can not have nuclear arms because you are a threat. Japan will tell will dictate our economy because there stock market will continue to thrive while ours crashes. Wake up Americas youth

Jerry Murphy 2-15-2012 06:00 PM
I think we should theow the UN out of New York and the country. We pay for most of their budget, and they constantly go against us. the day Korea starts dictating to us, I hope I don't live long enough to see. But I worry about my grandkids.
Obamas social engineering, weak foreign policy, and redistribution of wealth and class warfare is bringing this nation to its knees. He wants to melt this nation down and reform us in the European model. I am totally fed up with this administration. Farhoud you came here because America has always been a great nation, the president we have now, has no respect for our Constitution, our economy, our religions, and our successful people, who got educated and busted their butts to become successful. You are in college, but when you get a good job and make money, the government will take most of it from you and give it to the ones you referred to, disengaged, ignorant of whats going on around them, IF OBAMA GETS HIS WAY.

Byron Powell/NJ 2-15-2012 11:51 AM
Welcome Farhoud, you bring a new perspective to this disscussion. Your former home is in a part of the world that has seen what terrorists and oppressive government can do to a people. I dislike saying this, but most of America is soft. We have never had a war on their soil. We have the misguided illusion that "it could never happen here". Well it very well may happen here, maybe not like Europe in WWII, but from within, chemical warfare for example.

I think a big problem for the U.S. is we are made up of so many different races and nationalities. Each having their own customs, tradirions, language, religion, and some, laws. To live in peace here, we must all try to assimilate and get along.
Somerimes we are successful, sometimes not. In other countries, there is more pride in their heritage, Germany are Germans, France are French, etc.
There are too many special interest groups here tugging at the fabeic of the nation.

The disengaged young people. That's a big problem. 50 or 60 years ago, a parent could discipline a child, so could the school. Children were taught right and wrong, they were given boundaries to live by. Then things changed. Everybody has civil rights. If you spank your child, his/her civil rights were violated. In the nut shell, respect for authority was destroyed, in many, not all thank goodness. But much damage was done.

I had an expression I used in class, "when do your freedoms, infringe upon my freedoms". If everyone is allowed to do whatever they want, under the guise of freedom, we have choas. We need guidelines. I am a teacher, many of my students feel the world revolves around them. It is good to have a healthy ego, but to a point. They think the world owes them a living. Ganted these young people are in college trying to better themselves, but the general attitude is they are the best, brightest, the world is their oyster. It's true some of them are brilliant, but not all. Other countries excel in so many important fields.

We can't say our students are not performing well. If a certain group shows lower progress, it's not politically correct to single them out. The teachers hands are tied. Many students are "pushed" along to graduate. We have students graduate from high school that can't read. We can't criticize anyone, some group gets upset and then a law suit.

This present society puts too much emphasis on celebrity. Models, sports, reality TV, quick fame and money.
Why should I work 9 to 5 like mom and dad, bust my butt, and die young. They want it all now, and want is handed to them. They lookmat TV and think that's how life really is.

Now this is not all our young people. Many, many are doing it right, but there are too many that are not.

Back to our government, they are playing right into this problem. The "nanny" state, cradle ro grave handouts.
Look at Occupy Wall St. they say the government "owes" them money, high salaries, guarenteed jobs. One man was asked what he wanted, he replied, $20 minimum wage, and doctors can't make more than $20k per year.
He apparently is not a math major.

We have so much that is good in this country. But we do have some serious social issues to contend with. There are no simple answers, but one thing is clear, we should be concerned and get involved.

Starving 2-15-2012 12:25 PM
We have many talented people here with specialized degrees that are unemployed. We should not allow companies looking outside this country for employees, when there are qualified workers here, out of work. We are still paying our student loans and jobs are scarce. My husbands employer moved the work to Asia, lower corporate tax rate. America is not employer friendly.

Farhoud 2-15-2012 01:18 PM
Thank you Byron, i'm happy to know that i am not the only one that realizes these important issues. You said something interesting in your comments, The US has so many different cultures and ethnicities now and its hard to manage. I read American history and i am fascinated with how this great nation was built. This country was built by many people from many different lands they in some cases were treated badly, but they wanted the American dream and overcame adversity. In my former country we had to pass an english proficiency test just to qualify for the visa. We wanted it bad enough so my father taught us english when he came home from work at night. My point is America has become to afraid of offending people while risking its own stability as a nation.

I say "Farhoud for president!" Farhoud, you make a lot more sense than some of our candidates running for president, and even our current one. I am proud to call you a fellow American, as you seem to care about this country more than some people who were born here. Welcome to the SBN and to this very important discussion.

Carmine 2-15-2012 04:28 PM
Food police in North Carolina. 4 year old girl takes a ham and cheese sandwich, juice and banana. The food "inspector" told her, her mother didn't pack her a proper lunch, they said it did not meet govt. standards and took it away from her and made her eat chicken nuggets and sent a note home to mom with a bill for $1.25 to cover the nuggets. After the dust died down, the school apologized. The original lunch did meet govt standards.
And some of us dont think the govt. is on a big power grab and sticking its nose everywhere.

Ken 2-15-2012 07:20 PM
There are so many negative comments about our society- the nanny state mentality, dictating what food children can eat, religious freedom etc. It can be depressing. It also shouts out what a serious situation the US is in. The sad part is that if the liberals win and we become a nanny state with gov controlled health care and dictating how we should live our lives the same liberals will realize that they should have opened their eyes and listened to the right. There is still time .This election is the most critical ever to stop the left.

To Mr. farhoud, your observations are so right. I am attending Brooklyn college and I belong to a club with international students and American students. We had this very same conversation about Americas youth ruining the nation. We could not get most of the American students to realize whats really going on. The conversation became heated and then turned very ugly. They felt they had to defend Americas youth thats, when the bigotry started I was called a stupid Muslim terrorist by one of them. I'm not a terrorist or Muslim. I was born in Iran to French descent parents. What was fustrating is that nothing was accomplished and the fact remains Americas youth is just concerned with thier face book , video games and reality TV shows.

Ibrahim, I don't condone bigotry at all, and I am not supporting people getting ugly in debates, but I can understand the American students defending the youth in America. You may not approve of how many of our young people live, but we have had a different style of upbringing here. We had a long period of peace and prosperity after WWII, even the cold war of the late 50's and early 60's didn't effect our lives foo
much. Viet Nam was thousands of miles way, we never had a war on our soil, like you have seen. Our young people didn't have that terrible reality to contend with. We were free to be kids, and teenagers and young adults doing the fun things available to us.

We had a draft, and volunteer army to keep us safe. We were not really soft, we just had a much more civil society that allowed us to enjoy our freedoms.
We are the envy of the world, that's why so many people come here to live and be educated. Our western society, good and bad is still much better than many, many cultures around the world.

Ibrahim 2-16-2012 05:45 PM
Greg i agree with what you are saying. our dialogue was about if our youtb doesnt become more concerned. tberea are other countries tbat will surpass America. we sbould have fun and enjoy being a kid. but the children are our future. I love America and the American way of life must be protected

Ibrahim, I worked with a man who was born in Tehran. His parents were well to do. His mother was schooled in the same french school as Farah Diba Pahlavi. He remembered having a wonderful life before 1979 when the Shah was forced into exile. He and his family fled Iran, without their money and went to England then here. He would tell us often how people would try to warn them about the threats to the government, but it fell nontheless.
We Americans naively feel it can't happen here.

There is the Jewish Defense League, The Catholic Defense League, and CAIR, Council for American-Islamic Relations.

If Jewish people are disrespected, their organization speaks up, LOUDLY. The same applies to CAIR, even more so, they often threaten violence, heads will roll, literally!

We Christians have been taught non-violent reactions to our assaults. Turn the other cheek, our Bible teaches us. Now I am not recommending we all go out there and get physically violent, but we should get loud and involved. We are much too passive when it come to our faith being ridiculed and restricted.

We Americans can get so passionate about so many things, sports, animals, trees, FACEBOOK,
Why can't we use some of that energy to defend our religions. Write to your Senator and Congressman, let them know how you feel, and make them realize that we are mad as heck, and not going to take it anymore!

Shirley 2-14-2012 11:58 AM
Marie, you are so right, I belong to a lot of groups, Million Moms for instance with the horrible stuff on tv when kids are watching and a lot of other groups that defend our rights. We can be aggressive without being violent but its time to act

John W. 2-14-2012 12:28 PM
In 1911, General John "Black Jack" Pershing fighting in the Phillipines, had captured several Islamic terrorists. His men ordered them to dig a ditch for their own graves. These captives, all Muslims hate the very sight of a pig, and they believe, that if they die any where near a pig, they cannot enter heaven, even if they die as a martyr. So, Pershing knew this, and had his men bring several pigs over to the newly dug ditch. The prisioners were terrified. The soldiers were ordered to coat each bullet with pigs blood, all but one prisioner was shot and thrown into the pit along with the dead pigs. The one surviving prisioner was released, to go back to his people to let them know what happened. The Islamic terror strikes stopped almost immediately.

This pig thing is nothing new, but it works.

John W. 2-14-2012 12:50 PM
Sorry Marie, this was supposed to be under REALLY FED UP's post.

It's a true story.

Pat/NJ 2-14-2012 01:41 PM
You know this pig thing seems comical, but it is being abused by our Muslim friends. Part of my family is of the Jewish faith. They keep a Kosher kitchen. Out of respect, I make sure they have Kosher meals when we get together. But they still sit and eat along side the rest of us. They don't require us to change our routines.

We had Muslim men at my job washing their feet in the bathroom sinks. People complained, so my employer had a room set aside for them to wash their feet and pray. Then these men complained about the food in our cafeteria, we actually had the audacity to have a BLT on the menu. PORK again! So you know what was done? They removed the BLT and the ham sndwich from our menu.

This political correctness has gone much too far. Nobody else gets this special treatment.

Shirley Falcone 2-14-2012 02:17 PM
These so called entertainers feel empowered by the "hollywood" types and the liberal elitests. These people claim to be tolerant and so concerned about providing welfare and government funded health care (our tax dollars) to all the less fortunate, and they call the conservatives among us, heartless, insensitive, intolerant and uneducated.

In my opinion, they are the intolerant ones. They want everything secular, and remove any reference to religion, in many facets of our life. They are not tolerant towards anything they don't agree with.

These liberal, progressive, secular groups are still in the minority, but unfortunately they currently hold some positions of authority in our government and are calling the shots right now.

There are more of us who value faith and good values and respect for all people in this country, without special treatment for any one group.

We need to put our voices together and be heard loudly in Washington, D.C.

Ken 2-14-2012 06:14 PM
Marie, A good point. How about if we all start out with some basics. Everybody wear a cross or cruifix on a chain or a lapel pin. Say grace at meals when we are home or at a resturant. Take a good example from the muslims. They are not afraid or shy about public display of religion. When the liberals tell us we must say Happy Holidays why do we agree? Why not say Merry Christmas or whatever. Who are the liberals to tell us anything. We empower them by going along with what they say.

Marie 2-14-2012 06:34 PM
Ken, my husband and I have been doing exactly that for many years. We took it even further. We moved to the Bible Belt. We had vacationed in the Smokies for several years and found that they were very open about Christianity. Merry Christmas everywhere, Happy Birthday Jesus openly displyed, Nativity displays all around. We liked that and moved here.
There are a few who protest, but in very small numbers. The bible belt gets very bad press in the liberal news, but I can tell you, these people are genuine and kind and proud to show their beliefs. The sterotypes of these areas are grossly exaggerated. There are people here from all walks of life, rich, poor, educated and not so educated. A nice slice of America. Thank you for your support.

Ana Marie 2-15-2012 08:56 AM
Guess we have to have something to be angry about or should I say have a cause. The persecution of religion from other people. Does it really matter? God judges us not other men or women. How are you going to adress real issues like, government, the economy, your pension, affordable health care. Pray and let God take care of religion.

Bobby D. 2-15-2012 09:59 AM
Hey Ana Marie, christians should be sensitive too. Play nice. If every body else is getting soft and wants apologies and special treatment thats, theyre choice. Its just become the American way

Marie 2-15-2012 10:41 AM
I'm not going to single out any one particular comment, but I think some are missing the real issue. This religious attack is just one part of the big picture. It doesn't make a difference that it's the Catholic Church teachings in this battle. The next time it will be Judaism, or Baptist, or your denomination. Then other freeoms we enjoy will slowly be taken away. If the government is successful in this abuse of power, the precedent will be set in stone. None of our rights and freedoms will be safe.
It is so much more than a religious issue. I agree, we people of faith must pray, and hope for the best, but the Bible also says God helps those who help themselves.

The government is on a big power grab.
I don't want to sit by idly and let it happen.

Ray 2-15-2012 12:52 PM
Hey, Anamarie, I'm not sure I follow your thinking. It does matter. Do you want to live in a country where you have to pray in secret, afraid to openly show your religion, the way Russia used to be, with fear of arrest if caught praying?
Have you ever seen someone with numbers tattooed on their forearm? I have, neighbors who survived the Holocaust in Europe, identifying them as Jews. This is the start of silencing religious freedom by the secular left.

Bill/vet 2-15-2012 01:47 PM
Bobby D. I think you were saying we're all too thin skined. That is not the issue.
True some get their nose all out of joint over nothing, but this situation is much deeper than that. The govt. is putting it's nose where it does not belong, and we, all of us, should speak up and stop it.
If your neighbor went over to you and started telling you how to run your home, or what car to own, or what team to root for you would be up in arms and probably punch him out. The same thing is happening now, but quietly, and slowly, just under the radar, and on a much larger scale.

I watched Fox News this morning and they said some singer (?) wore an outfit like Red Riding Hook and had a man dressed like the Pope with her and she was mocking the Catholic Church. I don't know who she is (I still listen to Patsy Cline, lol) and the commentator said she should try to mock the Muslims and see what happens.
I really think its about reaction. We as Christians don't react, we just say "oh no". It's time to stand up for what we believe. Petition, make calls, scream, yell and whatever but get the attention of those in authority and of course our votes are going to yell the loudest.

Hi Shirley, that was Nicki Minaj, a young black rap artist, I use that term loosely, who performed a skit mocking the Pope and the churches exorcism, singing "O Come All Ye Faithful".

If this skit had used the Prophet Mohammad instead of the Pope, the news would be doing backflips trying to placate those offended.

This is not acceptable. All of our religions are being attacked, there is no respect anymore for people of faith.

If we don't respect each others individuality and religious choices, then none of our rights and freedoms are secure.

We must all get involved, talk to your neighbors, I know some will tell us to take a hike, but keep discussing these very important issues.

Our government is banking on us NOT talking and comparing information with each other. They don't want us to be well informed, so they can continue to manipulate and control.

Shirley Marie Kerrigan 2-14-2012 09:01 AM
Marie, I wasn't sure what it was, that is horrible. I am not Catholic anymore but do visit Catholic churches for services, etc. When I go I follow their rules out of respect. I do not go to Mosques because I don't believe in what they do but I don't stop them from believing. I went to a job a while ago and two muslims (a man and a woman) came, they said they were allowed to leave at lunch time (no one else was allowed) so they could buy food without pork. (brown bag it?) they also were given "prayer time " and a place to pray. Holy toledo

Shirley, I have to tell you that the first mistake you made was watching Fox News. That station is so right wing, it is scary. And MSNBC, so left wing, that it is nauseating. Watch CNN. It is the only truly fair and balanced television out there. They really are "keepin em honest", as Anderson Cooper often states. I blame FOX and MSNBC for much of the divisiveness in this country. Both stations fuel the flames, rather than present accurate facts from both sides. Trust me Shirley, stick with CNN.

Bill 2-15-2012 08:30 PM
Tony, Shirley watching Fox is not the issue. The srory about Nicki Minaj is the issue. CNN is decent, but we need more right wing news organizations to balance out the crap from MSNBC.

In todays Staten Island Advance there was an article about a small church group that used a public school facility on the weekend to hold religious services. They paid the city rent for the use. There are a number of such congregations in the city that do likewise. The City of New York ordered them out. The congretion brought the matter to court. The NY State Supreme Court ruled in favor of the city. No prayers on public property even if they pay. This is another reason as to why I think liberalism is destroying the moral fabric of the country.

city worker 2-13-2012 12:59 PM
If you want to pray go to church or do it in your house. Public school is for education.

Elizabeth 2-13-2012 02:12 PM
I bet if it were Muslims using the school for religious purposes, you would be outraged.

Ray 2-13-2012 03:22 PM

Joe R. 2-13-2012 05:10 PM
This is a goss simplification, but the pilgrims fled England because of religious oppression and unfair taxation. It only took us 236 years to get right back there. Way to go America!

Bill 2-13-2012 05:45 PM
Hemant Mehta, of the Friendly Atheist publication, is thrilled about the ruling against the church meetings in the school. Now he is trying to get the government to remove the tax breaks religious organizations receive.

SINCE ATHEISM IS NOT CONSIDERED A RELIGION, THEY CAN MEET IN THE SCHOOLS AND OTHER GOVERNMENT FACILITIES.

Our religions, all of them, are under attack.

This is disgusting.

Toni 2-13-2012 06:03 PM
I agree public school is for education, but I don't think NYC is blazing any trails in that department.

Those empty rooms should be available to anyone who pays the fee, for peaceful, non violent meetings.
There is no harm in that. No one is being forced to attend the meeting or service. This is America for Goodness sake, not Russia.

Ken 2-13-2012 07:12 PM
City worker- The point is they do not have a church.
I was thinking there are chaplins in the armed forces. There are churches on almost all military bases. All paid for with tax dollars.
I wonder how long it will be before the liberal left will demand that this practice be stopped under the separation clause?

Shirley 2-14-2012 05:47 AM
City worker: I once had a Jewish man tell me that one day my "fish" would have to come off my car, he thought it was funny that the liberals would stop me from displaying my belief. I told him that if that happened that same group of people would have him remove his yamulka. You don't realize your rights are in jeopardy too, it just hasn't shown up yet.

Marie 2-14-2012 10:20 AM
Shirley, a few years back, a neighbor of mine asked me why I wore a crucifix on a neck chain. She knew I was Catholic, but she asked any way. I told her the obvious answer, I am proud to be Catholic and love Jesus.

Her response amazed and offended me, especially since she was Jewish and wore a very large Star of David on a neck chain. She said she thought it was offensive to display a symbol of a "mutilated body" openly. Wow! Did she miss the point. She then said it shouldn't be permitted. She said if you must wear it, wear it under your shirt.
My reply was very similar to your story about the yamulka. If I have to hide my faith, then ALL faiths are in jeopardy.
Thank you Ken and Shirley for bringing these topics up. I hope people realize the seriousness of these events and how they effect all of us.

Ken 2-14-2012 06:05 PM
Elizabeth- You would loose that bet. A piece of advise from one who has lived many years. Never - never question anybodies motives. You will be wrong almost all of the time. Ask them instead if they would object to muslims renting a school. Why would make that statement?
